Building Peace with Nature through BioTrade

Since 1996, the UNCTAD BioTrade Initiative has led the way to show how trade can be a powerful tool and mechanism for conserving biodiversity, fostering sustainable use, and advancing equitable benefit-sharing. Through the BioTrade Principles and Criteria, BioTrade has provided a framework for governments, businesses, and local associations to align local development with biodiversity stewardship, showcasing innovative solutions and business models.

This study compiles lessons learned from activities undertaken by the UNCTAD BioTrade Initiative and BioTrade partners over more than 20 years. It provides insights, identifies key challenges and provides recommendations for concrete actions.

This study was prepared by UEBT based on the input, insights and information provided by the UNCTAD BioTrade Initiative and other BioTrade partners.
