Salesforce Administrator / Automation Specialist

Part-time contractor supporting UEBT's Salesforce assurance platform

Location: Remote
Contract Type: Freelance Contractor / Consultant
Working Pattern: Flexible. Initially expected to be approximately 3 days per week, with scope to increase based on project workload and mutual agreement.
Start Date: As soon as available.

This is a practical, hands-on Salesforce role for someone who wants to help a mission-driven non-profit strengthen the systems that support ethical sourcing, biodiversity, certification, verification, membership and other processes. You will work in a highly customised Salesforce environment, improving automation, documentation and long-term maintainability while leaving the platform clearer than you found it.

The Context

UEBT – Sourcing with Respect uses a highly customised Salesforce platform to support certification, field verification, membership management, risk assessment, audit processes and related assurance activities.

The platform includes:

  • Experience Cloud portals

  • Extensive Salesforce Flows

  • Custom Lightning Web Components (LWCs)

  • Complex custom object structures

  • Complex sharing models

  • Data integrations and APIs

  • Reporting and dashboarding

  • Certification and verification workflows

The Role

UEBT is looking for a technically capable Salesforce administrator and automation specialist who can understand business processes, support existing solutions and improve the platform safely.

This role is primarily focused on Salesforce administration, Flow management, documentation and operational improvement, with light Apex and integration support where needed.

The successful candidate will work closely with UEBT staff and implementation partners to support, maintain and enhance the Salesforce environment. The work includes investigating existing solutions, improving them safely, documenting them properly and helping build sustainable long-term support capability. This is a significantly customised existing Salesforce environment rather than a greenfield build. The right person will enjoy investigative work: understanding existing automations, identifying dependencies, improving maintainability and documenting what they find.

Key Responsibilities

Salesforce Administration

  • Manage custom objects, fields, page layouts and record types.

  • Maintain permission sets, security models and user access.

  • Support Experience Cloud users and related processes.

  • Build and maintain reports and dashboards.

  • Troubleshoot production issues and user-reported problems.

Automation and Flow Management

  • Read and understand existing Flow logic.

  • Troubleshoot Flow failures.

  • Modify production Flows safely and with appropriate testing.

  • Refactor Flows to improve maintainability.

  • Understand interaction patterns between Flow and Apex.

  • Document Flow behaviour, dependencies and decision paths.

  • Assess the impact of proposed changes before implementation.

  • Participate in release testing and deployment activities.

Development and Technical Support

  • Maintain and enhance Apex code where required.

  • Review existing classes and triggers.

  • Support integrations and API-based processes.

  • Assist with data migration and data quality initiatives.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues across Flows, Apex and Experience Cloud.

Documentation and Knowledge Management

  • Document Flow logic and decision paths.

  • Maintain clear technical documentation.

  • Maintaining object relationship diagrams.

  • Produce data model documentation and release notes.

  • Create administrator handover documentation.

  • Update user guides where required.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Recent Salesforce Administrator experience (2+ years)

  • Strong Salesforce Flow design and troubleshooting experience

  • Experience working with highly customised Salesforce organisations

  • Experience with custom object design and data modelling

  • Experience supporting Salesforce Experience Cloud

  • Strong documentation skills

  • Ability to read and understand Apex code sufficiently to troubleshoot issues and work with developers.

  • Ability to make small, safe Apex changes where appropriate.

  • Ability to investigate and understand existing solutions built by others

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and remotely

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Salesforce Platform Developer I certification

  • Experience with Lightning Web Components (LWC)

  • Ability to write and modify complex Apex classes

  • Integration experience

  • API design and troubleshooting experience

  • Salesforce data migration experience

Experience in one or more of the following environments:

  • NGOs

  • Membership organisations

  • Certification programmes

  • Audit systems

  • Compliance or assurance environments

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Wants to help a mission-driven non-profit organisation improve its systems and processes

  • Understands business and assurance processes

  • Enjoys working with complex Salesforce configurations

  • Can troubleshoot and improve existing systems

  • Has solid Flow expertise

  • Can confidently work with Apex when required

  • Produces high-quality documentation

This role is probably not a good fit for someone who:

  • Prefers only greenfield builds.

  • Wants tightly specified tickets with no investigation.

  • Is uncomfortable working in complex existing Salesforce organisations.

  • Does not enjoy documentation.

Why Work with UEBT

The role offers flexible part-time working, meaningful technical variety and the chance to make a complex platform clearer, safer and more sustainable.
