UEBT certification

UEBT's certification programme works to assure that botanicals are sourced with respect for people and biodiversity. The certification applies to a specific botanical supply chain.

Certification is granted once an independent audit establishes compliance with the UEBT standard in the cultivation or wild collection areas of the natural raw material.

UEBT’s requirements are comprehensive and focused on outcomes, with a wide range of environmental and social issues covered.

What is assessed?

Independent auditors from accredited certification bodies assess the local organisation responsible for the cultivation or wild collection of the botanical. They also look at the sourcing areas for that botanical such as a forest area or set of farms, and interview harvesters, farmers, workers, or smallholders.

UEBT and Rainforest Alliance Herbs & Spices Programme

UEBT and Rainforest Alliance have an Herbs & Spices Programme for ingredients in herbal and fruit infusions (including rooibos) as well as other herbs & spices, such as vanilla, cinnamon, chili, pepper, etc.

 

UEBT and SAI Wild Harvest Programme

UEBT and SAI Platform have partnered to accelerate the responsible sourcing of wild-harvested botanicals.

 
The UEBT ingredient certification label is customisable and can be used in a company’s brand colors or black and white.  The name of the ingredient must always be used on top of the label.
