Guidance on UEBT standard Principle 6: Workers' rights and freedom of association

Principle 6 of the UEBT standard defines practices that respect the rights of actors. Criterion 6.3 focuses specifically on workers’ rights. The UEBT standard aligns and recognises the rights of workers set out in relevant ILO conventions and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human rights.

This factsheet gives guidance on how to ensure workers’ rights (wages, contracts, freedom of association, working hours), including concrete tips and examples for companies and their suppliers for compliance with UEBT requirements on workers’ rights.

It is part of a series of technical guidance documents meant to support the implementation of key issues in the UEBT standard. It was developed with the support of the BioTrade facilitation programme, UNCTAD.  UEBT and UNCTAD acknowledge the financial contribution of the Swiss State Secretariat of Economic Affairs (SECO).
